FREE Newfoundland and Labrador Class 3 Licence Test

In Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), you must hold a Class 1 or 3 commercial driver’s licence to operate Class 3 vehicles. This NL Class 3 licence practice test can help you! Class 3 vehicles are typically single-unit trucks with three or more axles. The province employs a huge variety of such vehicles for diverse applications. You may find employment opportunities operating cement mixers, delivery trucks, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, garbage trucks, hydrovac trucks, service trucks, or snowplows.

To apply for a Class 3 commercial driver’s licence in NL, you must have held a full Class 5 driver’s licence for at least one year and pass a vision test.

Next, you must pass a road signs test and a written knowledge test on the theory of driving Class 3 vehicles. The passing score for each test is 80%. Because most Class 3 vehicles in NL have air brakes, you should also obtain an Air Brake endorsement. To do this, pass the official Air Brake knowledge test. (You can take the Air Brake knowledge test online.)

Once you pass the Class 3 knowledge and signs tests, you must submit a Routine Medical Form about your medical status to any Digital Government and Service NL location. Once the form is approved, you may obtain a Class 3 learner’s licence, which will allow you to practice commercial driving under supervision.

Once you feel ready, you may take the road test for a commercial driver’s licence. You must take the road test in a Class 3 vehicle. If the vehicle has air brakes, you must have an Air Brake endorsement.

Digital Government and Service NL has not published a general commercial driver’s licence manual, although it has published an official Air Brake Manual. The final chapter of the NL Driver’s Handbook does have some general information about commercial driving, but that’s all. Want more intensive knowledge training in Class 3 driving than this? We can help!
