FREE PE Air Brake Practice Test 1

Welcome to the first of our nine Prince Edward Island (PEI) Air Brakes Practice Tests! We designed these practice tests to help you pass the official Air Brakes knowledge test on your first try.

To apply for a commercial driver’s licence in PEI, you must be at least 18 years old (19 for Class 1 and 21 for Class 2 school buses), hold a Class 5 licence, pass a medical exam, and pass a vision test. (For a Class 3 licence, you must have held the Class 5 licence for one year.) Then you must pass a general knowledge test on the theory of commercial driving. However, if you’re applying for a Class 1 licence, you must enroll in Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) before taking the knowledge test.

Passing the general knowledge test will entitle you to a commercial learner’s permit, which will allow you to practice commercial driving under supervision. At this point, you should enroll in an Air Brakes course if you’re applying for an Air Brake endorsement.

When you’re ready, you can schedule a road test for your commercial driver’s licence. However, for a Class 1 licence, you must complete MELT before taking the road test. For an Air Brakes endorsement, you must complete an Air Brakes course, pass an Air Brakes knowledge test, and pass an Air Brakes practical test, all before taking the road test. The Air Brake tests are based on the official PE Air Brake Manual, which is available at Parts for Trucks at 257 Brackley Point Road. The Air Brakes practical test consists of a pre-trip inspection test and a brake function test. You must take the road test in a vehicle that’s representative of the class of licence you’re applying for. For an air brake endorsement, that vehicle must be equipped with air brakes.

Unfortunately, neither reading the official Air Brake Manual nor taking a short Air Brake course can guarantee you’ll pass the Air Brakes knowledge test – certainly not on your first try. But we do!

This Prince Edward Island Air Brakes Practice Test includes 35 multiple-choice questions on air brakes. All questions are up to date as of May 2025 and based on the official Air Brake Manual.

If you get stuck on a practice question, you can ask our AI Assistant to discuss the question in more depth, give you a hint, or answer your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately show you the correct answer and an explanation.
