View All PlansLooking for some help to pass your Quebec Class 1 knowledge test? You’ve come to the right place! This is the first of our three Quebec Class 1 Knowledge Practice Tests. We designed them to help you pass the official Class 1 knowledge test – on your first try.
To obtain a Class 1 driver’s licence in Quebec, you must meet a series of requirements, starting with your Class 5 driving experience. You must have held a full or probationary Class 5 licence for either 24 or 36 months, depending on how much truck driving experience and training you’ve also had. For details, see the SAAQ website.
Next, you must pass a vision exam and submit a medical examination report. Once SAAQ approves the report, you must pass the Class 1 knowledge exam on the theory of operating Class 1 vehicles. Practically all Class 1 vehicles have air brakes, so this would be a good time to also pass the Air Brake knowledge test. In any event, you must pass the Air Brake knowledge test before you take the road test for the Class 1 driver’s licence. These two knowledge tests are based on the official Quebec handbooks, Driver’s Handbook and Driving a Heavy Vehicle.
Passing the general knowledge test will enable you to get a Class 1 learner’s licence, which will allow you to practice commercial driving under supervision. You must hold the learner’s licence for either one month or three months, depending on your age, your driving experience, and the amount of truck driving training you’ve had. For details, see the SAAQ website.
When you’re ready, you can schedule your two road tests for your Class 1 commercial driver’s licence. The first test is a circle check test, in which you inspect the vehicle’s mechanical components. The second test is a driving test. You must take these tests in a Class 1 vehicle equipped with air brakes.
This Quebec SAAQ Class 1 Knowledge Practice Test includes multiple-choice questions on the theory of operating Class 1 vehicles. All practice questions are up to date as of August 2025 and based on the two official handbooks.
If you get stuck on a practice question, you can ask our AI Assistant to discuss the question further, give you a hint, or answer your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the question, you’ll be shown the correct answer and an explanation before you proceed to the next question.
