\When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and sirens active, you must pull over to the right and stop safely. When passing a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights, you must slow down to 60 km/h (or the posted limit if lower) and move to a farther lane if it is safe to do so. This is the “Move Over” law. It is thoroughly described in the official Nova Scotia Driver’s Handbook, which is a comprehensive study guide for aspiring drivers. As you begin your learning phase, you should read its contents at least once. You will learn more about traffic laws, road signs, safe driving practices, and emergencies. Use this manual and our free Nova Scotia Practice Tests to prepare for the official NS written knowledge test and become a better driver.
This version of the handbook is up to date as of May 2025, so you will always have the latest version available. Please avoid rushing through its chapters.
