FREE Ontario G1 Diagnostic Practice Test

To obtain a Class G1 learner’s licence in Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision screening and the Class G1 Knowledge Exam, and present valid government-issued identification. Our Free Ontario G1 Diagnostic Practice Test covers 15 of the most commonly missed questions in our multi-test series of learner’s licence preparation materials. Failure to pass the official knowledge exam creates delays and additional fees. Our practice tests ensure you pass on your first attempt!

Topics you must learn for the knowledge exam include Ontario's licence classifications and graduated licensing restrictions, road signs, enforced speed limits and penalties, and mandatory seatbelt and child safety seat usage. You’ll also need to be familiar with Ontario’s zero-tolerance alcohol and impaired driving laws and its demerit system for traffic violations. Additionally, there are rules for driving under adverse conditions and compliance expectations during enforcement stops that may be tested.

The knowledge exam may also cover speed limits, school zones and construction areas. You’ll need to understand protocol during traffic stops when drivers are legally required to present their licence, vehicle registration, and insurance immediately. You’ll also need to be familiar with Ontario's Graduated Licensing System (GLS), which gradually adds driving privileges over a 20-month period (24-month minimum if no driving course is taken). It includes three stages: Class G1 (Level I: Learner’s Licence), Class G2 (Level II: Probationary Licence), and the Class G full licence. The GLS applies to all new drivers, limits your driving to between 5 a.m. and midnight, and prohibits your driving on 400-series highways with speed limits exceeding 80 km/h. You must have a licensed driver with at least four years of driving experience in the vehicle with you at all times.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t worry. Our tests help you pass on your first attempt. The Ontario Knowledge Exam comprises two sections of 20 multiple-choice questions. You must take the exam at a registered drive test center, and you must correctly answer at least 16 out of 20 (80%) questions on each of the two sections to pass.

Our Free G1 Diagnostic Practice Test is based on the most recent version of the Ontario Driver’s Handbook and contains 15 multiple-choice questions. It is one of five available practice tests as well as five additional Ontario-specific resources, some of which have added features for our Premium members.
